How to Troubleshoot a D-series Gate That Reopens Immediately After Closing or Briefly Closes When Opening - Troubleshooting

Notes
If your gate reopens after reaching the closed position, it may be due to a collision, a DOSS (Digital Origin Seeking System) error, or that the settings needs to be adjusted.

Idea

Common Symptoms

  • When the gate closes, it sometimes reopens to the pedestrian position, or when it opens, it briefly closes again.

Possible Causes and Solutions

1. Physical Obstruction

  • Ensure the gate runs smoothly with no dirt, stones, or obstructions on the end of the rail.

  • Check the rack to make sure it's not pressing down on the pinion gear.

  • Inspect the rack joints to confirm they are level and aligned.

  • Place gate on manual and push gate via hand an open and close cycle to confirm if there are any restriitrions on the rail

2. Incorrect Rack-to-Pinion Gap

  • There should be a 2–3mm gap between the rack and the pinion gear:

  • A rack mounted too tight can trigger false collision readings.

3. Catching Pole Misalignment (closing issue only)

  • Ensure the gate does not bump or rub against the catching pole.

  • Misalignment may cause the gate to believe it's hit an object.

4. Oil on Encoder (D5-Evo / D5-Evo Low-Voltage Only)

  • Steps to take to determined oil leakage:
    1.  Locate the front door of the motor and open it:

    2.  Turn the thumbwheel anticlockwise until it is completely removed from its socket.

    3.  Look closely at the point where the thumbwheel thread is located. Check if it appears wet or dry.

    4. If it's wet, this indicates an oil leak. In this case, you should remove the motor and have it serviced and repaired at your closest CENTURION branch.  If it's dry, there is no oil leak.

Additionally, inspect the bottom of the chamber cover, which is the cover where the chamber wheel turns into the Thumbwheel. Ensure there is no oil or wet substance present on the bottom of this cover.

5. Adjusting Settings

Make the following changes via the gate controller:

  • Go to Run Profile

    • Increase the Ramp Down Distance (double the current value).

    • Increase the Crawl Distance (double the current value).

  • Redo the gate limits after making the above changes.

6. Electric Fence Contactor Considerations (closed position only)

If electric fence contactors are used in the closed position:

  • Enable Positive Close under the Run Profile menu.

  • Increase the Collision Force under the Safety menu.
