How to troubleshoot a Low Battery Voltage Condition (STATUS light flashes 3 times) on the CP80 D3 or D5

If you find yourself unable to close or open your gate or the gate stops short, and your controller status LED flashes 3 times with a pause, kindly refer to the below possible causes for this error to appear:
Symptom:
-When you press your remote or any trigger input, you gate refuses to either open or close or run a short distance and stop.  The status LED is flashing three times with a pause.
Troubleshooting:

If the battery voltage is less than 10.5V, the motor would not operate at all. For any other voltage, the battery could still be the cause of the problem.

  1. Check Power Supply:

    • Disconnect the battery.
    • Verify that the green CHARGE light is ON.
      • If OFF, check the power supply fuse:
        • CP84E 250mA
        • PSU 6 1A
      • If the fuse is fine, power might not be connected to the charger or the power pack.
  2. Inspect Battery Leads and Connectors:

    • Check the condition of battery leads, terminals, and connectors.
    • Look for and correct any loose connections or signs of corrosion.
  3. Check Battery Charge Level:

    • Measure the battery voltage with the charger connected.
    • If the voltage is below 12.5V, the battery is discharged.
      • Excessive opening cycles per hour can discharge the battery.
      • Charge the battery or consider fitting a 10A power pack with CP80 PSU if required.
  4. Test the Charger:

    • Disconnect the battery and measure the voltage on the battery leads.
    • Voltage should be between 13.6V and 13.8V.
      • If not, replace the charger.
  5. Evaluate Battery Condition:

    • Ensure the battery voltage is above 13.5V with the charger connected to check if the battery is charged.
    • Disconnect the charger from the battery.
    • Remove the DC motor leads from the DC controller.
    • Apply the DC motor leads directly to the battery while measuring the battery voltage.
      • Ensure the moving gate does not pose any danger.
    • If the gate does not move, either the battery or motor could be faulty.
    • If the battery voltage remains unchanged, the motor is faulty and needs servicing.
    • If the battery voltage drops below 11.2V, the battery must be replaced.

Before replacing the battery, measure the charging voltage on the battery leads with the battery disconnected. It should be between 13.6V and 13.8V. If not, replace the charger.
